Melissa Boswell
Co-Host and Founder
Hi, I’m Melissa! I’m a PhD candidate in the Neuromuscular Biomechanics Lab at Stanford University. My current research bridges the fields of biomechanics, psychology, and computer science to understand not just how we move, but how we think about movement and our motivation for being physically active. I hope that through BOOM we spread biomechanics knowledge, strengthen and support our international biomechanics community, encourage human-centered research, and have some laughs.
Hannah O’Day, PhD
Co-Host and Founder
I am a Program Manager for Education and Communication for the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance at Stanford University. I just completed a PhD in Bioengineering where I developed open-source tools to better measure, understand, and improve walking. I am excited about human-centered research, mobile health technology, personalized approaches to health and wellness, and science communication. I hope to build and support empathetic communities equipped with the skills and knowledge to make our world healthier, smarter, and more collaborative. I am grateful to get to do this with our BOOM team.
Margaret O’Day
Content Creator
Hey, I’m Margaret and I have a lot of fun interacting with BOOM listeners on social media! I have recently earned my Master’s in Development and Health Psychology and my goal is to work towards a healthier and happier community through health intervention development. In my free time I enjoy fitness training, hiking, traveling and cooking.
Cristiane Schmitz
Campaign Wizard
Hello, people. I’m Cris Schmitz. Health is my passion and as a Personal trainer I am able to diffusion this passion to others. In my Master’s I use biomechanics knowledge to design equipment for children with disabilities. BOOM has inspired me to continue learning and show me how biomechanics can be used to improve health. Come with us and let’s make the BOOM community bigger and louder.
Doyin Ogundiran
International Accelerator
Hello! My name is Doyin. I am a recent college graduate from a non-related biomechanics/movement science field, really eager to dip my feet into the world of biomechanics. I am an avid runner and currently have interests studying running biomechanics, locomotion, and sports biomechanics. Ideally I would love to combine my interests of running and biomechanics and turn it into a fruitful endeavor—perhaps potentially researching ways in which biomechanics can be utilized to aid the running population in regards to injury rates sustained while running. I am excited to be a part of the wonderful BOOM community, and I am looking forward to learning and sharing more about the field of biomechanics with others around the world!
Jessica Hunter
Collaboration Ambassador
I have extensive experience in and strong knowledge of biomechanics and exercise physiology research methods to monitor human performance and injury risk.
I am also a veteran of the fitness industry, with experience as a group fitness instructor, personal trainer, and manager of both types of programs in university and private club settings. My goal is to produce research results that can have a real and immediate impact, and my work has been featured in Runner’s World magazine.
Uma Gokhale
Outreach Ambassador
Hello there! I’m Uma Gokhale. My passion lies in making a direct impact on the healthcare system by using my combined knowledge of biomedical engineering and exercise physiology. In the past I have worked with the US army as a biomechanical research engineer to help solve musculoskeletal injury-related problems for the dismounted army population. I currently work with a small start-up company called Infrared Rx, Inc. as a Device Design Engineer to help prototype muscular endurance and blood flow analysis devices in those with peripheral artery disease. I am a creative, outside-of-the-box-thinker and love giving back to the community.
Daniel Cousins
Podcast Manager
Hello there! I’m Daniel Cousins. I am a MSc Student at the Brock University Neuromechanics and Ergonomics Lab where we focus on workplace injuries and control of the upper extremity. Currently my research is on the use of wearables and markerless motion capture for ergonomic assessment tools. I hope to get a PhD working with upper extremity exoskeletons and move to work in industry. I am very excited to be a part of the BOOM team!
Michael Rose
Podcast Content Manager
Hi! I’m Michael. Currently I work as a Research Coordinator in the Boston University Movement & Applied Imaging Lab, a biomechanics lab that focuses on gait in individuals with knee osteoarthritis. My research interests lie at the intersection of wearable devices and assistive technology, and I hope to get a PhD and eventually become a professor in the field. Through my role I hope to help BOOM continue creating thought-provoking conversations highlighting both the academic and human aspects behind biomechanics research.
Tony Sayson
Podcast Dissemination Manager
Hi, I’m Tony! I’m a graduate student of Human Movement Science at the University of the Philippines. My research focuses on the effects of eccentric exercise training to sarcopenic individuals. Hopefully this could lead to inclusion of eccentric exercise in rehab programs delaying early onset of sarcopenia in at-risk population. My interest in the connection of human movement, in the form of exercise and sports, to our physical well-being is the reason I joined BOOM. This provides us learners and future educators an avenue to learn new perspectives and share knowledge across the globe. I’m looking forward to meeting new friends from the BOOM community!
